The first grading period ends Oct. 31 and the second grading period begins on November 3. Report cards are typically mailed a week after the last day of the grading period, so please look for your child’s report card to be mailed home shortly after October 31. Evening conferences are the first two Thursdays in November. Please contact the main office if you would like to meet with your child’s teachers or one of us during these times.
Nine eighth grade girls were invited to participate in Cuyahoga Valley Career Center’s first “IT’S for Girls” program on Friday, October 24. These nine girls joined 55 other area middle schools girls for a day full of activities. The program’s goal was to provide middle school girls with information and incentive to pursue their interests in STEM-related (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects and IT-related careers. The girls rotated through programs that focused on a variety of interactive technology-related activities: programming/software development, 3-D animation, computer networking, computer-aided design and math. Time was spent researching IT careers. Each girl left the day with a flash drive full of software/activities to take home that will cultivate their interest and help them define their potential career pathways and curricular options as they plan for high school. One of the best parts of the day was a luncheon with professional women from the IT industry. Each professional spoke about their career, background and experiences with time devoted for the middle school girls to ask questions.
On Wednesday, October 29, licensed counselor and author Susan Fee will speak on raising emotionally intelligent children (geared for parents of elementary and middle school children) from 7:00-8:30pm at the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center in Brecksville. All Nordonia parents have been invited to attend. Please call the career center at 440-746-8115 or visit www.cvccworks.com for information or registration.
We hope all parents are accessing Progress Book to monitor their child’s academic progress. This is a valuable tool available to parents and students on-line. Mrs. West met with all 7th graders during their core study session to go over Progress Book, grades, GPA and other topics. All students should have their usernames and passwords and know how to login. Please feel free to contact one us if you need assistance with your parent username, password, logging on, etc.
