We are having lots of fun this year in the library!
K-1stGraders
K-1stgraders are learning more about books and reading. Now is a great time to instill the love of reading. Both in classroom and in the library we are introducing them to a variety of literature. Daily reading with your child is a great way to spend enjoyable time together.
2nd-4thGraders
All 2nd-4th graders are set up on Accelerated Reader and are actively taking tests. Accelerated Reader is a program where students take comprehension tests on the books they have read. Please continue to encourage your child to read at least 30 minutes every day!
They are learning:
üAbout different genres
üHow to use the Electronic Card Catalog
üHow to locate books by author, the Dewey Decimal system, and subject.
One of my favorite things we are doing is Book Talks. During our Book Talks the students enjoy telling other students about the books they are reading and why others might enjoy the book, too!
The public libraryhas some incredible new things these days. In addition to books, one can usually find audiobooks, ebooks, playaways (a pre-loaded audiobook on a small I-Pod like player), music CDs, movies, and more!
