As you may have heard, yesterday Summit County was placed on Level 4-Purple on the Ohio Public Health Advisory System. While we have been making our decisions on the instructional model for the Nordonia Schools based on localized data, and not just the county color code, we have made the decision to continue our current model of fully remote instruction for at least the next two weeks. We will re-evaluate where we stand over Winter Break.
Speaking with Summit County Public Health this week, and listening to Governor DeWine last night, it is clear that the community spread of COVID-19 in our area is at an alarming rate. While we have not seen evidence of spread within our schools, the number of students and staff members contracting the illness through community spread has been increasing daily. Staffing our schools has been a constant issue, and more recently our transportation department has seen an influx of cases.
At this time we must all join the fight to stop community spread. The best way to do that is by staying home as much as possible, wearing masks, and washing hands frequently. In addition, please do not allow your children to attend or host parties, sleepovers, or other sorts of events. Our hope is by taking these actions now, we can flatten the curve and get students back to school as soon as possible.
