Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest is Here!
Mrs. Schlund, our Ledgeview Librarian is launching a fun new event for out students this school year. Students are invited to decorate a pumpkin to look like their favorite book character and enter it into our contest. Pumpkins can start coming into school on Monday, October 24th and must be picked up by Monday, October 31st. Red Ribbon Week is October 24-28

Red Ribbon Week Activities:

Monday, October 24-Red Ribbon Week Story on the Announcements; Classes are invited to sign our Red Ribbon banner in lunchroom.

Tuesday, October 25-We’re too BRIGHT for drugs- students are invited to wear bright/fluorescent colored clothing to show their support of Red Ribbon Week. 

Wednesday, October 26-Drug Free-Yay Me! Teachers have students in their class create a card or drawing related to making good choices to send to students at the high school.

Thursday, October 27-Wear Red Day -  students and staff are invited to wear red colored clothing to show their support of Red Ribbon Week. Teachers distribute RRW stickers to students.

Friday, October 28 -Fall Parade/Fall Celebration in P.M. Dress up day for students.

Changes to Afternoon Dismissal Starting Monday, October 24 
Due to safety concerns and traffic problems on Shepard Road there will be changes to our dismissal procedures which will begin on Monday, October 24. Information regarding the changes can be accessed by clicking on this link: Dismissal Procedures Updated October 12, 2016 
Costume Parade and Fall Celebration Friday, October 28
All parents are invited to attend our annual Costume Parade on Friday, October 28th. The parade will begin at 1:15. More information regarding the parade route will be sent home with students. We will parade outside if the weather cooperates. In the event of poor weather the parade will move inside to our Gym.
Following the parade we will hold a small Fall Celebration in our classrooms. A craft and games for each class will be provided by the school. Sign-up Genius links will be posted this coming Saturday for parent volunteers to help run the celebration and/or send in a snack off of the approved healthy snack list or water for the event.
Please be aware we will not allow additional treats for students on this day, due to food allergies and other safety concerns, this includes individual treat bags for students. 
Fall Parade Costume Guidelines
We know how excited our students are about dressing up.  In order to ensure this event is fun for everyone please review the following guidelines with your child:

·       Students are permitted to wear face paint/colored hair, this should not be excessive

·       Costumes are to be in good taste without displaying gore, blood or violence.

·       Props and Masks may be brought to school, and must fit in student’s back pack until end of the school day. They may come out for the parade ONLY. All props and masks must be in good taste without displaying gore, blood or violence (no weapons of any kind are allowed)

·       Hats or wigs are permitted, but must not interfere with learning.

·       DRESS CODE guidelines from the student code conduct will apply.

Thank you for your help and support in making this a fun Fall Walk!

Teachers may ask students to remove part of a costume that causes a distraction during the school day or that is not appropriate for school.  As a guiding rule – “We are having fun, but dressing so that learning can continue.” 

Parents/families are cordially invited to watch our parade that begins at 1:15pm. Weather permitting we will parade outside. In the event of poor weather we will move inside to the Gym.  

Flu Shot Clinic on October 26
Nordonia Hills City Schools are working with Health Heroes to hold flu shot clinics in the Nordonia schools on October 26th. Flu shots will be administered by registered nurses. Paperwork will be coming home from Health Heroes approximately 2-3 weeks before the clinic. The Flu Mist nasal spray is not available this year, only shots will be administered. This service will be available to students free of charge. Please contact our district nurse, Molly Kozlowski at molly.kozlowski@nordoniaschools.org. Thank You For Attending the KISS Breakfast
Thank you to all of the fathers, uncles grandfathers and other male role models who came in for our Kindergartners Invite Someone Special event. We appreciate your support and know our students loved having you here. A big thank you also goes out to our PTA for organizing and funding this event. No New Instruction Period
Starting Monday, October 3 students in grades 1-4 will be participating in a no new instruction period. During the no new instruction period (call W.I.N. Period - What I Need) students will be divided into working groups based on their needs. Some students will receive intervention, some reinforcement and some will participate in extension activities during this 1/2 hour during the school day. As students are grouped according to need they may or may not be working wth their assigned classroom teacher.

PTA Dance "Knight Out With My Guy"

PTA will host 'Knight Out with My Guy' on Friday, November 4th from 6:30 to 8:30pm in the Ledgeview Elementary Gymnasium. The event will feature a live DJ, dancing, dinner and a sweets bar. PTA Fundraiser Info
PTA's Mania fundraiser is underway! Every student should have came home with 2 tickets to either sell or buy. Participation is optional, but if every student sells 2 tickets, the PTA will surpass their fundraising goal and will be able to continue to do all of the fun activities for the students throughout the year! 

This fundraiser is very unique as your $20, not only gets you song downloads (at the top of every ticket), but you could potentially win up to $400 per week for the 10-week duration. Last year, we had winners that were close to $4,000! Winner earn prizes for top points and for the lowest points. Odds of winning something over the 10 weeks is 1 in 17!

Everyone can also buy tickets online. Make sure they enter in student's name to get credit.

-Also, for every two tickets sold and turned in, the seller will be entered into a drawing for an Apple iPad mini, (16GB, Wifi, White/Silver).

Box Top Competition has begun! Each class teacher was given Box Top Collection Sheets to pass out to the students last week.

The competition will be per grade. For every 3 sheets brought in the grade level will be given a leaf on the bulletin board. The tree (grade) with the most leaves by winter break will receive a special prize! For every sheet turned in with student's name, that student will be entered into a monthly drawing (drawn at the PTA Meetings) for a gift card.

For those of you that do not know, our beautiful playground and shade structure are the result of PTA fundraising and organizational efforts. Student Safety Concerns!
Our procedures for arrival and dismissal are in place to ensure the safety of our students. All parents must adhere to the following procedures: 
  • Students must get in and out of their vehicle at the solid yellow line in the back parking lot
  • Students must get in and out of the car on the passenger side only
  • DO NOT pass cars that are unloading students
  • Students cannot be dropped of prior to 8:15 if they are arriving for breakfast. 
  • If you arrive prior to 8:25, and your child is not eating breakfast, you must wait with your children until the bell rings.
  • Parents who bring students into the front of the building must park their car in the front lot and walk students to the door.
We ask that all parents set a good example for our Ledgeview students by following our procedures. Children learn from the examples adults set for them. 
Lunch Times for the 2016-17 School Year 
Parents are welcome to come join their children for lunch during the school year. We ask that you do not come in the first week and a half of the school year to allow students, recess/lunch aides and cafeteria staff time to adjust to the new recess before lunch schedule.
Lunch times are as follows:
First Grade: 11:05-11:30
Third Grade: 11:20-11:45
Second Grade: 11:30-11:55
Fourth Grade: 12:15-12:40
Kindergarten: 12:30-12:55 
A gentle reminder that parents are not allowed to attend recess with their child per the district's elementary handbook.  
Arrival Information for 2016-17 

Morning arrival time is between 8:25 and 8:40am. Students can enter the building at 8:25. Students should be in their classrooms by 8:40. Students who are not in the building by 8:40 must be brought to the office by an adult and signed in as tardy.

Morning carpool students should be dropped off in the back of the building. For safety purposes, students must get out of the car on the passenger side only. Please DO NOT pass cars that are unloading students. 

Students who will be getting breakfast in the Ledgeview cafeteria may enter the building at the front entrance between 8:15 and 8:25. Students will need to buzz in and inform the school secretary they are here for breakfast. Students who come in for breakfast should go directly to the cafeteria.

Dismissal Information for 2016-17

Afternoon dismissal time starts at 3:15. Car pool students will leave their classroom at 3:15 and go directly to the car pool area. Parents authorized to use the Car Pool line - please be sure your pick up card is easily visible in the front windshield, so it may be seen from a distance – the higher the better. Dismissal in the Car Pool Area of the building ends at 3:30. At 3:30 students who have not been picked up will be taken down to the office and an authorized adult will need to come into the building to sign them out.
Parent Pick Up students will leave their classrooms at 3:15 and head to their pick-up door. Parents who are using the Parent Pick Up option will need to go to the 'B' door and present ID to pick up their child. 
Please remember that cars can ONLY turn right onto Shepard Road between 8:00 and 9:00 and again from 3:00 to 4:00.

Parents who walk home with students may wait in the lobby.

Bus dismissal begins as soon as busses arrive. 

Online Forms for the 2016-17 School Year

The mandatory online forms for the 2016-17 schools year are available beginning August 1, 2016 at www.nordoniaschools.org/parentportal. These forms must be updated each year, as they are invaluable in the event of an emergency. If you are new to the district you need to set up a parent account then add your student to the account using their students ID number. If you need your child’s students ID number please contact the Ledgeview office at 330-467-0583 or email Amanda.Coon@nordoniaschools.org.

Dress Code Reminder

 When sending your child to school this year please keep the following dress code rules in mind:

  • Skirts and shorts must reach the end of your child’s finger tips when their arms are extended by their side
  • No spaghetti straps tank tops or shirts that reveal the midriff
  • No hats or head coverings indoors (acceptable  - barrettes, headbands/unacceptable- bandanas, sweat bands, head scarves, hoods)

  • No clothing with obscene, vulgar, violent or suggestive statements or symbols, including clothing that promotes or advertises alcohol and/or drugs
  • No flip flops, slippers, beach shoes or shoes with wheels

We advise that if you are in doubt as to whether or not an article of clothing adheres to the dress code that your child does not wear it to school. We appreciate your support!
