At Nordonia Hills City School District, we remain committed to fostering a love of reading and literacy development for all students. Beginning this summer, the district will no longer require summer reading assignments for students in grades K–12.

While required assignments have been removed, we strongly encourage all students and families to continue engaging in reading and literacy-rich experiences throughout the summer months. Research consistently supports the importance of regular reading in maintaining and strengthening academic skills, vocabulary development, comprehension, and overall student achievement.

To support families, we have compiled a variety of optional literacy resources for students across all grade levels and buildings throughout the district. These resources include:

• Links to digital stories and reading platforms

• Local library information and summer programming opportunities

• Recommended literacy activities and resources

• Support materials for continued reading and writing practice at home

We encourage families to explore these opportunities together and help students discover the joy of reading in ways that are meaningful and engaging to them.

Grades 4-12 are invited to register for our themed box service: Lit Loot! Each box will contain two themed books and an assortment of goodies.

How It Works

• Register each month for your Lit Loot Box. One Box per customer per month.

• New Lit Loot Box themes are released the first Monday of the month, unless the Library is closed, then they are released the following Monday.

• Choose from one of the themes. Your Lit Loot Boxes can be picked up at any of our locations.

• Fill out the form to tell us a bit about yourself and what you like to read.

• We'll contact you when your Box is ready for pickup.

• Keep the treats and goodies.

• Return the library books and box.
