Welcome to Northfield Elementary School!

As a school counselor, I am here to support the social, emotional, academic, behavioral, and career development for all students. There are a variety of tools I use to foster a holistic and proactive approach. My goal is to meet with every student at least once, so they know who I am. This will be a brief session and consist of questions like: favorite color, favorite food, fun activities, etc.

What does Ms. Ledbetter do?

Classroom Guidance Lessons:

I use the following SEL approaches to guide my classroom lessons:

7 Mindsets

CASEL Framework

Community Circles

Zones of Regulation

Ruler Approach

Each month the topics will be consistent with the 7 Mindset of the month. September’s Mindset is: Everything is Possible!

Check-Ins:
Check-ins are very short meetings typically in my office (usually 10-15 minutes). Sometimes students might have something on their mind, or they might be really excited about something; or maybe upset or sad- and need to get it off their chest. If a student requests multiple and frequent check-ins, or it seems like they could benefit from individual counseling I will reach out to families, and potentially refer to Julie Winston, our clinical counselor (she is here two days a week).

Small Group Counseling:

I create and meet with small groups that address a variety of topics, such as: friendship, self-esteem, worry, healthy relationships, transitioning to a new school or grade, self-regulation, anger, bullying, grief. When appropriate, I like to use the Community Circle approach in these groups.

Please complete the google form at the bottom of the page if you would like more information. I will obtain parent permission before including the student in the small group.

Individual Counseling:

I offer short-term counseling (not therapy) for students. This type of school counseling includes situational events; transitions to a new school year; anxiety; self-esteem; friendship concerns; academic concerns; etc.

Test Coordinator:

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s accommodations during testing.
